Allowance
An added feature to the Bank of America banking app, made using Figma.
Send money, Receive funds, Split costs, and give Allowance: these are all ways to simplify money distribution in our day-to-day lives. Parents, tenants, and everyone in-between can appreciate the convenience of regularly transferring payments using the new Allowance feature on the Bank of America app through Zelle.
Objective
Easy way to set regular payments to another person
I wanted to create a convenient way for someone to send money to another person at desired intervals of time. Think parent sending their kids monthly allowance, roommates sending their share of the rent to the one that’s in contact with their landlord, a significant other treating their long-distance partner to a bi-weekly coffee.
Integrate the feature on a trusted, preexisting application meant for money transfer
As a user of the Bank of America app, especially for Zelle’s money transferring component, I wanted to integrate this Allowance feature into the existing transfer options that are offered. I find Zelle extremely convenient and comfortable to use, so it would be the ideal platform to incorporate my idea for an allowance transfer feature.
The Process
Recreating the Bank of America interface
I started this process by recreating the app’s interface in Figma to allow for a real experience with the allowance feature. This allowed me to fully understand the app’s layout and existing features.
Defining the Allowance components
I had to consider what components are necessary to set an allowance. I ended up with: choosing a recipient, setting the designated amount, choosing the allowance frequency (how often the payment will be made), choosing a start date, and designating what account the money will be drawn from. I then made these interactive components in Figma, keeping in mind the original app layout and features.
Creating the Allowance icon
I wanted to follow the existing styles of the Send, Receive, and Split option under the Zelle feature on the app.
